01What cookies are
Cookies are small text records a website may place in a browser. Similar technologies include localStorage, pixels and device identifiers. Some are strictly necessary for requested functionality; others support analytics or advertising.
02What Maina may use
Matomo is loaded from our own server (analytics.builtbymaina.com) and runs at two levels. Before you answer the banner - and permanently, if you decline - it measures the visit without cookies: nothing is written to or read from your browser, and visitors are distinguished by a short-lived technical fingerprint computed on the server. If you allow it, Matomo sets its own first-party cookies so it can recognise your browser on a later visit.
- Analytics cookies: only if you allow them. These are Matomo's _pk_id and _pk_ses - first-party, up to 13 months, readable only by our own server.
- If you decline: nothing is stored on your device, but the visit is still counted - anonymously, and unlinked to any previous visit.
- Third-party cookies: none. Analytics data never leaves our own EU infrastructure and is never resold.
- Advertising, remarketing and profiling technology: not used.
- We also store your choice itself (in localStorage, key maina.cookie-consent) so we do not ask again. That is strictly necessary in order to honour your answer.
03Hosting and technical logs
The hosting provider may process short-lived network and server logs for delivery, protection and diagnostics. Those records are not necessarily cookies and are covered by the Privacy Policy. Beyond our own Matomo, the deployment loads no third-party resources into your browser - fonts are served from our own server, and there is no content delivery network and no advertising or profiling script.
04Choice and withdrawal
The two buttons in the banner carry equal weight - declining is exactly as easy as accepting, and the website behaves identically either way. You can change your mind at any time through "Cookie settings" in the footer of every page; withdrawing deletes any Matomo cookies already set, immediately. If you would rather not be measured at all, including anonymously, write to us at the address given and we will exclude you.
05Browser controls
You can inspect, block and delete storage through your browser settings. Blocking a strictly necessary technology, if one is introduced, may prevent its related function from working.
